Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a tried and true non-invasive skin-resurfacing procedure. During microdermabrasion, the top layer of dead skin cells is gently exfoliated and polished away while stimulating collagen growth to reveal healthy new skin that looks and feels smoother.

Microdermabrasion also helps to even out your complexion to make it smoother, brighter, and more even-toned. This procedure is generally considered safe and effective for all skin tones.

What Microdermabrasion Can Do For Your Skin

Microdermabrasion can treat a range of different skin conditions. A few skin conditions we use microdermabrasion to treat include:

  • Sun damage
  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Scarring
  • Blotchiness
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Age spots
  • Dark spots from acne
  • Scars
  • Melasma
  • Dullness

Microdermabrasion involves resurfacing your skin, making it an excellent procedure to address numerous skin issues resulting from sun exposure and aging.

How Microdermabrasion Works

Microdermabrasion is a way to resurface the skin and return it to a smoother and firmer texture. It is a mechanical exfoliation procedure.

The microdermabrasion process involves spraying or rubbing very fine crystals onto the skin, using a special wand that gently exfoliates the skin’s surface to remove the top layer of the skin. This is not a painful process.

The process takes 30-40 minutes for the face and 20 additional minutes for the neck.

Although the procedure is most commonly performed to improve the complexion of the face and neck, a specialist can perform the procedure on other areas of the skin as well.

Side Effects of Microdermabrasion

There may be slight swelling or sunburn-like symptoms for a few days following treatment. Your skin may also appear brighter, more youthful-looking, and even-toned immediately after treatment.

You can return to your normal activities when you leave our office after your treatment. You don’t need to change your schedule or activities when you have a microdermabrasion treatment.

How to Care for Your Skin After Microdermabrasion

After a microdermabrasion treatment, it is essential to moisturize your skin. You want to keep your newly exfoliated skin well hydrated and protected.

You should also use sunscreen daily following treatment. We recommend using at least SPF 30 sunscreen to protect your skin.

Depending on the issues being treated and your skin type, we recommend a series of microdermabrasion treatments.

How Microdermabrasion Works for Acne Scars

Acne scars can impact your skin even after you are no longer experiencing active breakouts. Acne can leave scars behind that linger on your skin, evidence of former breakouts.

Microdermabrasion can be part of a comprehensive treatment plan to treat acne scarring. With microdermabrasion, the top layer of dead skin cells is removed. This can help rejuvenate the skin, even out skin tone, and promote healing for acne scarring.
