What is Scalp Micro-Pigmentation (SMP)?

Scalp Micro-Pigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical procedure that involves the placement of tiny pigment deposits within the upper dermis of the scalp that simulates the appearance of naturally growing hair.

While results can last up to 10 years, this hair loss treatment has multiple applications.

What are the main uses for SMP?

  1. A Shaved Look

A shaved look has become increasingly popular with people who want to mimic the appearance of a closely cropped full head of hair.

  2. The Appearance of Density

Scalp Micro-Pigmentation can increase the appearance of density in areas of thinning hair because it decreases the color contrast between the scalp and hair in patients who prefer to wear their hair longer.
This thickening effect can be particularly beneficial for female patients with diffuse thinning or those who want to avoid using camouflage products on a daily basis.

  3. Scar Concealment

SMP is an effective method of concealing scars resulting from trauma to the scalp or from surgical procedures used to treat hair loss or non-cosmetic problems.

  4. Augmenting a Hair Transplant

SMP has become a useful tool to enhance the appearance of hair transplants. This can be beneficial for patients who want a look that is fuller than can be provided by their existing donor supply.
