Turn That Frown Upside Down With Botox
Cosmetic Dermatology News: Botox Can Treat Depression
As if there wasn’t already enough reasons to get Botox, new studies show that the anti-aging injectable can also help lift your mood! The study, which was published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research, found that Botox injections helped improved the mood of more than half of the subjects suffering from moderate to severe depression.
In the study, which was a randomized, double-blind placebo controlled trial, 74 depressed subjects were injected with either placebo or Botox in the muscles in between the eyebrows. The group that was injected with Botox, which contains onabotulinumtoxinA, showed a reduction of 47% in their depressive symptoms after six weeks. The depressive symptoms were measured by the MADRS scale.
This study gives new hope to those suffering from depression. Charles Darwin’s theory that facial expressions can influence mood are supported by this study. If it’s harder to frown and look depressed, then it is also harder to feel depressed.
